It's official: I want to move to Kyoto. Some highlights of the weekend:
-- visiting three (maybe four...or more?) UNESCO World Heritage Sites
-- an enraged macaque nearly killing Josh
-- Marian accidentally dropping her water bottle into the cabbie's crotch. I'm pretty sure he said "Fish it out, baby" in Japanese, or something as equally lecherous. Creepy, desu ne?
-- being asked to proofread Japanese college students' English essays in the middle of Kyoto Station
-- feeling humbled and evanescent in the presence of half-millennium-old beauty
-- eating yakitori so delicious my knees nearly gave out
-- a rickshaw driver telling us he still keeps in touch with his ALT (we do make a difference!)
-- rock gardens, bamboo fountains, raindrop-dotted maple leaves and other Zen scenery
-- hip-hop medleys (Lil Jon, Eastside Boyz, T-Pain, Luda...) at a downtown club
-- more weird scrambled eggs!
